EXHIBITION TEXT DESCRIPTION

Display Case 1, Left to right

1.         A large silhouette of a pelvis bone cut from black paper is mounted on velvet white watercolor paper. The paper cut includes the pelvis bone as well as several vertebrae. The piece is approximately 22” wide by 30” long.

2.         An illustration of a very large pelvis and the femur are mounted on a large piece of black matte board. Raised from the pelvis and connecting it to the femur is an illustration of a hip implant. It consists of a silver ball, nestled into the hip socket, attached to a long silver rod that runs down the center of the leg bone. Next to it is a small lucite pedestal, on which a hip implant is located. Below it are two signs with QR codes:

3.         A large piece of velvet white watercolor paper hangs from the ceiling. It is approximately 6 feet long. Placed on it are two silhouettes cut from black paper. They represent two different views of the spine, frontal and lateral. Underneath it is a sign with a QR code that says Spine Center and links to https://www.montefiore.org/thespinecenter

4.         This corner of the room contains three color pop-ups, ranging in size from about 10” wide to 24” wide. The first contains two orange bottles with medication. One is closed and the second is open with red and blue pills spilling out. The second contains two hands wearing blue surgical gloves administering an injection. The third pop-up is a scene depicting a patient receiving radio frequency ablation. It contains a woman lying down, in the foreground is a machine from which four cables emerge. They are connected to the woman’s back. In this display are several lucite pedestals, holding 3D sculptural of portions of the spine. There are also several signs with QR codes that link to:

Display Case #2, Left to Right:

1.         An illustration of a very large shoulder and the humerus bone are mounted on a large piece of black matte board. Raised from the shoulder and connecting it to the humerus is an illustration of a shoulder implant. It consists of a silver ball with four screws, nestled into the shoulder, attached to a long silver rod that runs down the center of the arm bone. Next to it is a small lucite pedestal, on which a shoulder implant is located. Below it is a sign with a QR code that reads:

2.          A large silhouette of a shoulder bone and humerus cut from black paper is mounted on velvet white watercolor paper. The piece is approximately 22” wide by 30” long.

4.          Two large silhouette paper cuts of the elbow bone are mounted on velvet white watercolor paper. Below is a sign with QR code that reads:

Display Case #3, Left to Right:

1.         Three large silhouette paper cuts representing the bones of the leg and arm - femur, tibia, fibula, and humerus - are mounted on velvet white watercolor paper.

2.         This display consists of two shelves. On the top shelf are three framed prints. They are illustrations of x-rays. We see white plates, screws, and rods, connecting bones represented in a soft blue. On the second shelf is a pop-up, measuring approximately 17”x22” on the left side is a bare leg. The page is curved to follow the contours of a circular external fixator that surrounds the leg. Next to the pop-up and resting on the shelf is an actual large circular fixator. Between the two shelves is a card with a QR code:

3.         Two large silhouettes of the foot and ankle bones are cut from black paper and  mounted on velvet white watercolor paper.  Below are two pedestals that contain objects. On the right is a wooden foot. On the left is a clear plastic foot and ankle, with rubber connecting the two. Between them is a sign with a QR code:

4.         On the top are three large silhouette paper cuts representing various views of the knee. They are mounted on velvet white watercolor paper. Below is it a color popup, approximately 17” wide by 22” long. It is a detail of a leg, focusing on the knee. There are three incisions around the knee with three devices inserted into them. Below is a clear pedestal with a 3D printed view of the knee, with rubber allowing it to bend. Next to the display is a sign with a QR Code:

5.         The bottom of this display consists of three pop-ups, ranging in size from about 10” wide to about 22” wide. The first is a detail of a hand holding an acupuncture needle, while other needles are inserted in a row. The second pop-up consists of a physical therapist wearing blue scrubs, assisting an individual who kneels on a mat. The therapist’s hand rests on the patient’s back. The two are located in a room with physical therapy equipment. The third pop-up consists of two individuals, a mature man and woman, sitting on the ground, meditating. Surrounding the three pop-ups are are colorful plastic cones and balls. There are several signs with QR codes:

6.         The top of the shelf contains a photograph of a woman with black hair and glasses holding up a pop-up book.

Display Case #4, Left to Right:

1.         A flat screen display is mounted to the wall. On it, three individuals speak about the exhibit. (can we link to the video?)

2.         Two shelves are filled with colorful physical therapy items for. These include weights of various sizes, small balls and cones. There are cards with QR codes:

3.         A colorful popup, measuring about 17” x 22”, sits flat against the wall. It contains a young boy wearing a blue cast on his arm. He is surrounded by other children. A second popup sits below it, and is of equal size. It depicts a child’s leg on a pillow. Below it is a view of a leg with an internal implant connecting two parts of the leg bone. On the shelf below it are a small pair of children’s shoes pointed outward and connected by a steel rode. There are two signs with QR codes:

4.         Mounted on the wall are a variety of colorful elastic robes with black handles used in  physical therapy.
